To the Editor:

It is with great pleasure that the Ogdensburg Police Department Police Benevolent Association announces our endorsement of Detective Patrick “Rick” Engle for St. Lawrence County Sheriff.

After due consideration of all issues and canvassing of the union members, the union has unanimously voted to endorse Detective Patrick Engle. Our members have seen first-hand the commitment and dedication that Rick has provided the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department for the past 22 years.

Union members both past and present speak highly of Rick and routinely describe him as leader, genuine and transparent. Rick brings a wealth of knowledge to every incident and has the ability to raise morale even in the toughest situations. As an instructor, Rick has passed on his knowledge to help prepare new officers for the challenges they will face throughout their career. Rick has gained the trust of his peers and his ability to lead is unmatched. He has spent his life protecting his county and country as a Deputy, Detective, and a United States Marine. Rick has built strong relationships with agencies around the county and is widely known as trustworthy and reliable. The position of Sheriff is a highly visible job and citizens will see that Rick is approachable, welcoming, and willing to listen.

We believe that Rick’s moral character and professionalism make him the most qualified candidate. This union is confident that his selfless service will continue as the Sheriff of St. Lawrence County. We hope that in June you will all join us in supporting Detective Patrick “Rick” Engle for St. Lawrence County Sheriff.
