To begin with, we just went through the worst rainstorm we’ve ever seen! We had 15 roads damaged or destroyed. This horrific storm was called “Debby” and she dumped over 8 inches of rain in just a few hours and continued its wrath  throughout the next day.

Unfortunately, I was in the hospital and Lisa Fisher took over for me and with Kevin Hawley and the crew and DPW and the crew did a super job of opening the roads and handling necessary paperwork regarding Debby. Within three days and nights, they had the traffic moving for the most part. We thank all employees and volunteers for helping us get through this disaster. Work is continuing construction and repairing. We are very proud of a job very well done.

Darren Richards has been with his wife, Debbie, who is going through heart surgery at Rochester Memorial Hospital. With working on this storm and keeping up with his wife recovering from surgery, he is doing a super job as well. We are all cheering for Debbie to make a full recovery and to return home soon. We are all praying for you.

The Transfer Station is open and seems to be working great. Everybody seems to appreciate it and even with all the rain we’ve gotten, it has stayed dry under the new building. This is a great service for all of us taxpayers and we should be proud. It is nice to go to a neat and clean place. I’m very proud of what we’ve done without raising taxes.

Sidewalks are coming along slowly with all the bad weather we’ve had. This will not stop us. We’ve got a great team. Thanks to Mark Fisher and crew for a great job.

We are working very hard to get our Trail System up and running. There are many of us that are doing all that can be done to get this opened and help with our economic growth. It is very hard for businesses to make a living in Colton and South Colton without tourism. This will help us with keeping taxes down and our tourism up. This is a must. I will never quit supporting this trail as it will connect us to the rest of the North Country. Colton is the pivoting center for the rest of Northern New York. I implore a few of you to work with us to get this done and let’s think of the majority, not the minority. We have just lost a store because of lack of business. This does not have to be.

Let’s hope September is a drier, nicer month as summer is about over. Doesn’t seem possible. Have a great fall.
