Vote with love, not fear

In these tumultuous political times, every American who loves this nation is concerned about their families and the future of this country. Republicans and Democrats both claim they need to “save” us from the dangers of the opposing party.

So, have you asked yourself: “What is an ideal America for you, your family and the generations to come?”. If the answer boils down to blaming Democrats for “inflation, immigration, socialism or government interference”, I think you’re simply echoing generalized accusations before putting any thought into answering that question.

If your focus is on a society that helps the people you love, you would be thinking about needing to protect vulnerable family members:  the elderly, the physically disabled, LGBTQ individuals, learning and emotionally challenged children, veterans or the health-compromised, financially-fragile people in your world.

If you’re struggling to make a living - you might be thinking about federally-funded trade schools and technology training for todays’ jobs, stronger unions fighting for better wages or preventing the corporate price-gouging that harms working Americans (considering that, thanks to GOP politicians, corporations can raise prices as high as they want).

If you’re remembering how many in your middle or working-class family would have been in dire straits without unemployment benefits, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid or Covid checks,  you also realize wealthy people never have to worry about having enough.

Are you aware that education reduces crime and builds a better-informed, viable electorate? Are you hoping we’ll always have clean air and water? Are you confident that the law will protect average people rather than corporations and the rich with high-paid lawyers?

Is the MAGA movement thinking about any of this?

I see Trump supporters fearing that the Equal Rights for Women Amendment will get passed (after being repeatedly blocked by the GOP since 1923). I see corporate and wealthy donors fearing their profits might be reduced if the GOP isn’t in power. I see bullies fearing that non-whites, women, other religions and anyone “different” will have their civil rights upheld.

I see Democrats hoping that love and compassion will extend to every citizen (while figuring out that if exorbitantly wealthy billionaires paid their fair share, the government could balance the budget and create people-positive programs). If the ultimate goal of a government "for the people" is to respect diversity, that's what Democrats support.

Two different visions. One with fear. One with love. Your choice.
