Mary Kathleen Demo, 83, Brasher Falls

BRASHER FALLS -- Mary Kathleen Demo, passed away at Albany Medical Center on Sunday, November 26, 2023, with her family at her bedside.

Her immediate family honored her life privately with a mass and burial on December 5th.

There will be a time of visitation on Wednesday, July 10th from 4 pm to 6 pm.

A memorial mass and celebration of life will be on Thursday July 11th at 11 am at St. Patrick Church in Brasher Falls for friends and extended family.

Arrangements are entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.

Kathleen was born on June 23, 1940, in Potsdam, daughter of the late Hubert and Helen (Leary) Keenan.

On August 18, 1962, she married William D. Demo in North Lawrence. They shared over 57 years together until his passing on June 7, 2020.

Kathleen is survived by her son, William D and Kim Demo, Jr. of Endwell, NY her granddaughter, Melissa Kate Demo of Endwell, NY. One brother, Robert and wife, Annette Keenan of Ford City, PA, two sisters, Mary Clare Fitzgerald of Westwood, MA, and Jo Ann Cheney of Ossining, NY, also her sister-in-law, Shirley Keenan of Galway, NY, and Barry Cheney of Warwick, NY.

She was predeceased by her husband, her daughter, Elizabeth (Beth) Demo on June 16, 2021, and her brother, Michael Keenan and her sister, Rita Keenan.

Kathleen earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Plattsburgh State and taught 2nd grade almost her entire career at St. Lawrence Central School.

As a member of St. Patrick's Church, she was a regular attendee at daily Mass and adoration. She was also a member of the Altar and Rosary Society.

Kathleen was always present at Bill's auctions; they made a great team.

In later years, Kathleen loved to watch professional tennis and her granddaughter's softball games.

Kathleen was renowned throughout the North Country for her baking. She made wedding cakes and later her cakes, and especially her cookies were sought after for fundraisers for many charitable organizations.

Many holidays were filled with Kathleen baking dozens of cookies and Bill delivering them to family, friends and organizations.

Kathleen was very musical-played piano and was selected to sing in a choral group while attending Plattsburgh State.

Kathleen's love of children and crafting not only showed during her teaching but as a Girl Scout leader, as a guest clown at the elementary school and in her woodworking projects.
