WINTHROP - On his own terms, Michael John Hunter, passed away peacefully on September 23,2024 at 11:30am. He was born to John Samuel Hunter and Olivia Jane Wilson on July 21, 1954. He graduated from St. Lawrence Central School in 1973.
For many years he worked on the family farm, “MaOlson” in Winthrop. He also worked at Walmart, Roberts Dairy Farm and Johnson Paper Corp.
He is survived by his daughter, Michaelyn Hunter of Winthrop, his siblings, Marie Plachotnik of Frankfort, Joyce Hunter of Massena, Susie Cinnamon of Chesterville, Ont., Jeffery Hunter of Winthrop and Marcy Phelps-Hand of Auburn, many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, John Samuel Hunter in 1959 and Olivia Jane Hunter in 2009, his sister and brother in law, Mary and Galon Eldridge in 2023, brother in law, John Plachotnik in 2022, step father Maurice Phelps in 2013, and great niece, Kirsten Eldridge in 2024.
Michael was a devoted sports fan of NY Mets and the New England Patriots. He was a bowler for many years and a card enthusiast. He spent many hours putting together puzzles while at the North Country Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Massena since 2014.
His family will receive friends at the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop on Monday, September 30th from 12 noon until 2 pm. His funeral service will follow at the funeral home at 2 pm. Burial will be held at Winthrop Cemetery.
