Donald J. Mitchell, 68, Hammond

HAMMOND -- A graveside service for Donald J. Mitchell, 68, of Hammond will be held in the family plot at Brookside Cemetery in Waddington.

In keeping with his wishes there will be no calling hours.

Mr. Mitchell died early Monday morning, February 19th, 2024, at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center following a long illness.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Frary Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

Donald J. Mitchell was born on May 11, 1955, in Ogdensburg, NY when the family resided in Waddington. Less than a year later they moved to Hammond when the family farm was lost to the St. Lawrence Seaway construction. He was the son of the late John Mitchell and Ann (Allison) Mitchell.

He was a 1974 graduate of Hammond Central. He later took welding classes and became an accomplished welder.

He had just started a business, fabricating Christmas Ornaments when he became ill. He was a lifelong farmer, working beside his parents, John and Ann Mitchell and his twin brother David.

He loved antique vehicles and always had a project underway in his shop.

Don loved to laugh and was never happier than when he had someone to share a joke with.

He is survived by his mother; Ann Mitchell, his twin brother; David Mitchell of Hammond, his sister, Deborah of Ogdensburg and several cousins.

He was predeceased by his father, John C. Mitchell; and his beloved cousin, Dorothy Wilson.
