Three Rochester residents busted with 8 ounces of cocaine, 5 ounces of fentanyl in Morristown

MORRISTOWN -- Three Rochester, NY, residents have been charged with felony drug possession following a traffic stop on Aug. 19.

According to the St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Office, Edwin Mercado-Rodriguez, 54, Rafaela Dejesus, 47 and Carlos Melendez, 24, were charged with first-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

The arrests occurred following a traffic stop on State Highway 37 in the town of Morristown, at which time deputies and State Police located approximately eight ounces of cocaine and approximately five ounces of fentanyl inside the vehicle.

Police say they also seized $5,692 in U.S. currency.

All three were arraigned in Town of Morristown court and remanded to St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility without bail.

All three are due back in court at a later date.

The St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Office was assisted by New York State Police, U.S. Border Patrol, Canton Police Department and the Massena Police Department.
