CANTON – Canton Free Library was the site of the initial meeting held to address the organizational procedures required to set in motion the establishment of a Canton Community Center.
The Center, once underway, will schedule activities and instructional seminars which will be available to youth, adults, seniors, and individuals with special needs. Interest in a Community Center has been a major local topic of interest for several years.
The first meeting was conducted on Wednesday, Sept. 19, following a preliminary sign-up that has now increased to more than thirty village and town residents. Committee members have volunteered to become a part of researching, promotional, and instructional teams needed for this phase of the program.
The Canton Community Center is to be established as a 501(c)(3) organization, which will include the wide range of presentations to be offered throughout the year. Currently, committee members are planning to meet again during the next few weeks. All interested individuals who may have previous experiences with the 501(c)(3) process or who wish to outline further ideas that will coordinate with the Canton Community Center project’s intention are invited to do so at this time.
Also, outreach to local businesses will be an important part of the Canton Community Center’s approach to increasing activities that will benefit commerce. Business owners are highly recommended to become involved and to share input with any of the teams. All interested in becoming involved may receive further information by contacting Keri Caracciolo, 315-854-2480.
