OGDENSBURG -- Firefighters saved a family and their dog from a fire on East David Street Tuesday evening.
Fire personnel responded around 7:15 p.m. to a reported structure fire, according to the department’s Facebook page.
Heuvelton Fire was called in for more manpower, and Morristown Fire provided standby, firefighters said.
"Crews went to work immediately with probationary firefighter Barr on the nozzle and first through the door, crews were met with a heavy volume of fire on the first floor, as the initial crew from shift 2 worked to extinguish the fire, off duty personnel began arriving on scene allowing crews to begin the interior search," the post said.
The home was reportedly cleared of people and the family dog was pulled from the fire.
Ogdensburg Volunteer Rescue squad members administered oxygen to the dog through a special mask designed for pets.
The fire was determined to be out and all units were placed back into service at 9:06 p.m.
"As always we want to thank HVFD and MVFD for their quick and dedicated mutual aide response as well as Ogdensburg Volunteer Rescue for their quick response and all the actions taken to help the animal in need. We would also like to thank the Ogdensburg Police department for their assistance on scene," the online statement said.
