Three jailed on drug charges following traffic stop in Canton

CANTON – Two Canton residents and a Madrid man face drug charges following a traffic stop in the Village of Canton on Tuesday.

Arrested were Robin Young, 59, of 158 Dutton Road, Canton, Larry Phillips, 34, of 53 North Street, Madrid; and Jonathan Murray, 26, of 321 Emerson Road, Canton, reported Canton police.

The arrests stem from a traffic stop upon a motor vehicle on Miner Street. Upon further investigation it was determined that the driver and two passengers were in possession of approximately 11 grams of crystal methamphetamine, a digital scale and packaging materials.

All three subjects were charged with one-count each of second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a Class A-2 felony, and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine with intent to sell, a Class B-Felony.

The driver, Robin Young, additionally was charged with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended/revoked vehicle registration, operating a motor vehicle with no insurance and operating an uninspected motor vehicle.

All three subjects were arraigned before Hermon Town Court Judge Velez and all were subsequently held on no bail at the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility.

Canton police were assisted by the St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Office.
