OGDENSBURG - Eloise J. Kroeger, age 101, of Ogdensburg, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 2, 2026, after a long, fulfilling, and beautifully lived life. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Eloise will be remembered for her kindness, gentle spirit, wisdom, and unwavering love for her family.
A Memorial Service for Eloise will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home, with Rev. Jay Seymour officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ogdensburg. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
Eloise was born on June 3, 1925, in Gouverneur, the daughter of the late Arthur and Edith (Beals) Finley. She graduated as Valedictorian of her class at Hermon School and went on to answer the call to serve others by entering the Cadet Nurses Corps program during World War II. She graduated in 1945 as a registered nurse, beginning a career that reflected her caring and compassionate nature.
Eloise worked for a time at A. Barton Hepburn Hospital before joining the staff at the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center, where she devoted many years to caring for others until her retirement in 1983.
On February 9, 1948, Eloise married the love of her life, William G. Kroeger. Together they built a loving home and raised their family. William predeceased her on February 19, 2007.
Eloise found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved reading, playing cards, traveling, bird watching, and, most of all, spending time with her family. She was a woman who treasured life's everyday moments and made those around her feel loved and welcome. Her warmth, kindness, and quiet strength touched the lives of generations.
Eloise was also a gifted and published poet. Through her writing, she beautifully expressed her thoughts, memories, and appreciation for the people and moments that meant the most to her. Her words, like her life, reflected a thoughtful and loving heart.
She is survived by her children, Michael (Deborah) Kroeger of The Villages, FL; Gerald (Barbara) Kroeger of Ogdensburg; Kevin (Tracie) Kroeger of Ogdensburg; Ann Lesperance of Ogdensburg; and Karen (Randy) Sabourin of Lisbon; her grandchildren, Michael Kroeger, Elizabeth (Scott) Colby, Jennifer (Scott) Gray, Jerry Kroeger, Jamey (Tara) Kroeger, William Kroeger, Chelsi Bailey, Katie House, Megan Wing, Marisa Tayrien, Tessia Sabourin, and Billie Jo Sutton; several great-grandchildren; her sister, Rose Fountain of Chase Mills; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
In addition to her husband, William, Eloise was predeceased by her son William A. Kroeger in 1970, an infant daughter Margaret L. Kroeger, and a brother, Donald Finley.
Eloise leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love. Her 101 years were filled with family, service, friendship, faith, creativity, and countless cherished memories. Though she will be deeply missed, her kindness and the love she gave so freely will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
