Elizabeth Ann Smith, 93, formerly of Ogdensburg

ODGENSBURG -- Elizabeth Ann Smith, 93, of Manlius, and formerly of Ogdensburg, passed away June 18th at The Grand Rehabilitation Center in Chittenango.

Ms. Smith was born on August 10th, 1930, in Ogdensburg, daughter of Harry C. and Elizabeth Baker Smith.

She attended local schools and was valedictorian of the class of 1948 at Ogdensburg Free Academy. She attended Wallace Secretarial School in this city and the University of Maryland.

During most of Ms. Smith's career, she worked for the federal government with the Department of the Air Force. During the early 1960s, she worked with the USAF in Europe as secretary to the Chief of the Counterintelligence Division, Air Force Office of Special Investigations.

She later worked at the Pentagon in the executive offices of the Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency and the Vice Chief of Staff of the Air Force.

In 1968, she cross-trained into the computer field and, at the time of her retirement, was branch chief of a programming office supporting the Office of the Secretary of Defense.

Upon her retirement from federal service, she was awarded the Air Force Outstanding Civilian Career Service Award Medal and worked as a consultant with Pinkerton Computer Consultants in Washington DC.

She returned to the Ogdensburg area in 1988.

Elizabeth was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she served as a Deacon.

At various times, she served as President, Secretary and Membership Chairman of the Saint Lawrence /Franklin counties chapter of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association.

She enjoyed playing bridge and was club manager for the Ogdensburg Duplicate Bridge Club for many years.

She enjoyed spending her summers at her camp on the Saint Lawrence River.

She is survived by nephews, David Bassett, Andrew Bassett, and Richard (Ruth) Bassett, and grandniece and grandnephew, Hailey and Ryan.

Elizabeth’s family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to her wonderful caregivers, Nancy Fletcher and Nancy Dortzbach, and the staff at Brookdale Senior Living in Manlius, NY, where she resided since September 2023.

Calling hour will be held Tuesday, June 25, from 10:00AM - 11:00 AM at Fox and Murray Funeral Home, 528 Franklin Street, Ogdensburg, NY 13669, followed by a graveside service at the Ogdensburg Cemetery with Rev. Laurena Marie Wickham Will officiating.
