Fort de La Presentation to host "Le Siege" event on July 16 in Ogdensburg

OGDENSBURG - A history of Ogdensburg and the North Country’s role in the battle between France and Great Britain for control of North America will introduce Saturday’s battle at Le Siege of Fort de La Presentation.

The introduction to the battle will be presented at 1 p.m.on Saturday and Sunday (July 16 and 17, 2022) by Ogdensburg author Jim Reagen who wrote “Warriors of La Presentation,” a history of the French and Indian War in Northern New York.

The actual battle between historical reenactors dressed as French, British and Natives will begin at 1:30 p.m.

The Saturday and Sunday afternoon battles will feature actual tactics and period weapons used by British, French and Native forces during the war.

The Siege of Fort de la Presentation will begin when the gates open at 10 a.m. with examples of camp life, demonstrations, military drills and other events at the encampments. Other events include:

10 a.m. Scavenger Hunt for Children

10 a.m. Tomahawk Throwing

10 a.m. Cartridge Rolling

11 a.m. Children’s Muster

1 p.m. History of French and Indian War by Jim Reagen

1:30 p.m. Battle begins with narration by Jim Reagen

3 p.m. Mock Duel

3 p.m. Midwife demonstration

3 p.m. tomahawk throwing

4 p.m. Gates Closed

On Sunday, July 17 at 7:30 a.m. a Catholic Mass will be held in the Archaeological Park on the site of Father Francois Piquet’s actual Chapel at Fort de La Presentation.

The event will also feature period vendors offering French and British products from the historical period.

Individuals who are interested in getting involved in the reenactment hobby should visit with the reenactors and learn about what life is like participating in the weekends.

Families are also invited to visit with reenactors to learn first hand what life was like for soldiers serving in the French and British units during the historical period.

The groups are recruiting new members both as part of the rifle companies as well as organizers behind the scenes.
