Susan Siedlecki, 80, Potsdam

POTSDAM- Susan Siedlecki, 80, of 1277 SH 345 peacefully passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at her home, with her family at her side.

Susan was born on October 27, 1943 in Potsdam, daughter of the late Kasimer F. “Stanley” and Christina Ann (Soyak) Siedlecki. She was a graduate of Potsdam Central School and married Gary F. Butterfield on November 3, 1962, a marriage that lasted over 30 years.

Susan attended New Hope Church in Potsdam. She was a member of the St. Lawrence Valley Dog Club, teaching dog obedience for many years, and dedicated many years to 4-H. She owned and operated Rainbow Kennels for many years and also served as Dog Control Officer for several towns.

She had a passion for animals, especially horses and dogs, and enjoyed riding and participating in horse shows. She liked to paint and compose poetry, but most of all she cherished her time with family and her grandchildren.

Susan is survived by her two sons and their wives, Tim and Cindy Butterfield of Lexington, KY and Gary “Jamie” and Lisa Butterfield of Newark, NY; four grandchildren, Kara, Jonathan, Colleen and Melissa; two step-grandchildren, Aiden and Zachary; and six great-grandchildren; and close family friend and caregiver Kim Tompkins.

Besides her parents Stanley and Christina, Susan was also predeceased by three siblings, Edward J. Siedlecki, Patricia A. Strader, and Joseph in infancy.

Friends may call at the Donaldson-Seymour Funeral Home on Monday September 30, from 4-6 PM, where a funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 AM with Rev. John Ault officiating. Burial will follow at Cooks Corners Cemetery.

Donations may be made in Susan’s memory to Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley or the Potsdam Humane Society.
