Disabled American Veterans Transportation Network needs St. Lawrence County volunteer drivers

The Disabled American Veterans Transportation Network is looking for St. Lawrence County volunteers to serve as drivers for all veterans headed to a VA medical appointment in Syracuse.

Using a DAV van, the volunteer driver picks the veteran up and returns them following their appointment. Drivers are needed Monday through Friday with a few exceptions.

If you are retired, have some free time, are a seasonal worker, or even a seasonal resident and are looking to give back, becoming a volunteer driver is for you.

For more information, call (315) 263-0424.

Veterans are asked to schedule their ride five business days in advance of their appointment. All appointments should be made between 9 a.m and 1 p.m. Monday through Friday. There is no transportation available on weekends and government holidays.

Pickup times are at the discretion of the driver. The driver will attempt to contact the veterans the day before the scheduled pickup. If the veteran is unavailable, the diver may leave a contact number or attempt to call again. The veteran must have a working contact number.

The veteran must have made contact with the driver to ensure a ride. The driver will not stop at the veteran’s location if no contact is made. The driver will call again the morning of the pickup prior to arriving at the veteran’s location. Be ready to leave when the van arrives, the driver will jot wait for more than 3 minutes at the veteran’s location.
