CANTON — The SUNY Canton men's soccer team will host its annual Fall ID Clinic on Sunday, Nov. 8, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for prospective student-athletes in grades nine through 12, as well as students enrolled in junior colleges or four-year colleges who have completed the required release paperwork and documentation.
"We are once again looking forward to welcoming a fantastic group of student-athletes to campus to see how they might fit into our program in the future," head coach Tim Penrod said.
"As we look to continue growing in the SUNYAC, bringing high-quality student-athletes to our campus is at the forefront of our recruiting process. Giving interested student-athletes an opportunity to perform and compete within our top-class athletic facility with our coaching staff is a great opportunity to see how players can impact our program both on and off the field. I cannot overstate how important our clinic is to our recruiting process: Over 90% of our current roster are former clinic attendees."
Unlike other ID camps and clinics, the SUNY Canton event allows participants to experience a full training session, work with coaches and current players, and gain a better understanding of the men's soccer coaching staff's style.
"We want prospective student-athletes to leave campus with a full understanding of the expectations we have as a staff and provide them an opportunity to get a good feel for what we're about, both on and off the field," Penrod said.
The clinic will include a full training session, specialized goalkeeper training, and opportunities to play in both small-sided and 11-on-11 games. Registration will be capped at 36 participants — 30 field players and six goalkeepers — to ensure the coaching staff has sufficient opportunities to evaluate each participant.
The schedule is subject to change, but the planned itinerary is as follows:
10:15 a.m. — Registration opens
10:45 a.m. — Registration closes
11 a.m. — Clinic begins
11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. — Team training and goalkeeper-specific training
12:20 to 1 p.m. — 7-on-7 and 8-on-8 games
1:10 to 2 p.m. — 11-on-11 games
2 p.m. — Clinic concludes
The registration fee is $85. Registration is available online at the registration form.
Registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Once the 36-participant limit is reached, a waitlist will be established. A member of the coaching staff will confirm registration within 24 hours of receiving the completed form.
Payment may be sent in advance by check or money order payable to SUNY Canton Athletics, with "Men's Soccer" in the memo line. Cash or check payments also will be accepted on the day of the clinic.
Advance payments should be mailed to:
