OGDENSBURG — Pro wrestling returned to St. Lawrence County as Northern Federation Wrestling brought its “Running With the Devil” event to Bill Merna Gymnasium at Ogdensburg Free Academy Sept. 27, drawing a few hundred fans for an evening of action in the ring.
The event, promoted by Norwood native Cody Jenne, also served as a fundraiser for the Ogdensburg Kiwanis Club’s baseball and softball field project. During the show, organizers announced that more than $1,250 had been raised for the project.
“Running With the Devil” helped support the Ogdensburg Kiwanis Club’s efforts to improve its baseball and softball facilities. Jenne said that $1,250 and counting would be donated from the event toward the project.
Jenne also announced to the crowd that NFW would return to the North Country next April.
The night featured seven matches, including the crowning of a new Northern Federation Wrestling world champion.
“Big Time” Bill Collier lost his championship to “The Alternative” Anthony Greene, giving Greene the top prize in the organization.
The tag team championship was also on the line in the main event, where champions Bustah and The Brain defeated Shot Through the Heart, made up of TJ Crawford and Love Doug, in an action-packed matchup. Both teams earned praise from the crowd before the night was over.
The opening match saw the mysterious Azure defeat newcomer and fan favorite Jerry Bykes.
In women’s action, heel wrestler Delmi Exo picked up a victory over babyface Christina Marie.
The popular Don Freeze squared off against “Flyin’” Ryan O’Neill in a match that featured plenty of high-flying action. Freeze came out on top and has his eyes set on the TV Champion Brett Ryan Gosselin, who refused to defend his title against Freeze until he proved he could win a match in NFW.
“Indigenous” Pat Sawyer won a triple-threat contest over CO2 and Jay Blast in a fast-paced match that was a crowd-pleaser.
In tag team action, Above All members Rylie O’Neail and Devin Justice battled PrimeTime members Carmelo Lee and Saint.
Rounding out the evening, “Hot Stuff” Shayne Stetson came out on the losing end of an evenly contested matchup against Juni Underwood.
