POTSDAM -- Graduate student swimmer Jake McCormick (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie) and freshman diver Sierra Jackel (Spencerport, N.Y./Spencerport) have been named SUNY Potsdam Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 22.
McCormick turned in a strong performance for the men's swim team. He won the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 57.36 and finished second in the 200 Backstroke in 2:07.85 against Skidmore College.
In her collegiate debut against Skidmore, Jackel swept the 1 and 3-meter diving competitions. She easily captured the 1-meter title with a score of 241.30. She was just 4.40 points from the 22-year old school mark of 245.70. It was a similar story in the 3-meter, as Jackel registered a score of 206.5 for the victory.
