Margaret Ann Hill, 82, Gouverneur

GOUVERNEUR - Margaret Ann Hill, 82, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 14, 2024, with her loving husband, Edmund S Hill, and family at her side in Leesburg, Florida.

Born in Pyrites, NY, on September 16, 1941, Margaret was the daughter of the late Guy and Ethel Rocca. She earned her bachelor of science degree in nursing from Suny Empire State College.

She married Edmund on June 22, 1963 and moved to North Carolina while he served in the Marine Corp at Camp Lejune. Margaret’s career as a nurse included Jacksonville NC hospital, Gouverneur EJ Noble Hospital and St Lawrence Public Health in Gouverneur, NY.

Maggie retired in 1999. She and her husband split their time between Gouverneur and Florida, before settling fulltime in Leesburg, Florida in 2007.

Margaret is survived by her husband of 61 years, Edmund Hill, her daughters, Kathleen (Frank) Pinnola, Middletown, NJ, and Kimberly (William) Reed, Gouverneur, NY, and by four grandchildren, Justin Reed, Alicia Cornell, Frank Pinnola, and Thomas Pinnola. Margaret loved her six great-grandchildren; Madelyn, Allison, Adelle Reed, and Gage, Reed, and Colt Cornell. She is also survived by three brothers, Guy Rocca Jr, Michigan, James Rocca, North Carolina, Robert Rocca, Virginia, her special Aunt Marion, several beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. Margaret was predeceased by her brother, Charles Rocca. 


Maggie enjoyed creating gifts and teaching her artistic talents, which included ceramics, stained glass, quilting, sewing, and painting. Maggie’s artisan-stained glass windows are showcased in local churches, funeral homes, and many of her family’s homes. She also loved outdoor activities, including gardening, hiking, and boating at Lake Bonaparte.

Maggie was a member of the Gouverneur Garden club, Elk’s bowling league and was a life-long communicant at St. James Church. Throughout her retirement, Maggie and Ed enjoyed traveling which included trips to Alaska and Hawaii and many cruises.

Margaret held dearly the company of her family and friends.  

The family held a private prayer service in Florida. A celebration of life will be planned in Gouverneur NY in 2025.
