Hammond 4-H and FFA Horse Show a big hit

HAMMOND – Sixteen young horse lovers, ages 5 thru 16, from around the area, gathered on Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Hammond Fairgrounds for the annual horse show as part of the 85th Annual Hammond 4-H and FFA Fair.

Susan Ellis, the Fair's horse and pony superintendent, is very pleased with this year's turnout, the largest since the saddle horse portion of the Hammond Fair was resurrected several years ago, and wishes to thank all who helped in preparing for, putting on, and participating in the horse show.

Riders competed in several different classes emphasizing the horse-and-rider connection including showmanship, halter, leadline, equitation, pleasure, and trail classes, along with six different challenging mounted games.

This year's participants included Johnna Washburn, Jade Washburn, and Isis White, all from Hammond; Ella Whitton, Charlotte Noble, Nora Noble, Addison Noble, Heidi Noble, Hudson Perrigo, and Stella Perrigo, all from Gouverneur; Quinn Howard and Ava Howard of Theresa; Summer Dobbs of Philadelphia; Sahara Potts of Carthage; Gabby Kondracki of Adams; and Levi Durant of Watertown.

Interested individuals who would like to participate in next year's Hammond 4-H and FFA Fair horse show as a competitor, volunteer, or sponsor, are urged to please call or text Susan Ellis at (315) 276-8730.
