NORFOLK - A Celebration of life gathering for Jessica Ann Tiernan, 35, is planned for Saturday, October 24, 2026 starting at 1:00 p.m., at the Norfolk American Legion. All are welcome to share food, music, and memories.

Jessica Ann Tiernan, born on March 12, 1991, in Potsdam, New York, passed away on October 15, 2026, after a courageous and determined battle with Stage 4 glioblastoma. Throughout her illness, Jessica demonstrated remarkable strength, resilience, and grace, inspiring all who knew and loved her.

A lifelong resident of Norfolk, Jessica graduated from Norwood-Norfolk High School and earned her bachelor’s degree from SUNY Canton. She built a life centered on the things she cherished most: family, friends, animals, and the simple beauty of the outdoors. Jessica had a unique bond with animals, especially her beloved cats, Elvira and Neko, who brought her endless companionship and comfort. She enjoyed spending time in nature, taking walks through the woods, climbing mountains, swimming in the ocean, and appreciating the peace and beauty around her.

An avid gamer with a vivid imagination, Jessica loved playing Dungeons & Dragons and sharing adventures with friends. Her sense of humor, creativity, and loyal friendship made her a treasured companion both at the gaming table and in everyday life. Above all, Jessica loved her family. A caring and devoted aunt who found great delight sharing her passion with her nieces and nephew, a sister who infused her soul into her sisters and brother, and a daughter whose ever-present wonder is reflected in her parents. Her kindness, patience, and effusive joy created bonds that will never be forgotten.

Jessica is survived by her mother, Shelly Despaw; her father, Rick Tiernan and his companion, Kim; her brother, Shawn Tiernan and his wife Jodie, their daughter, Valerie; her sister, Lisa and her husband Matt, their children, Paul and Kaylyn; her sister, Amy and her fur babies, Archie and Benji; and many extended family members and friends who will continue to carry her memory in their hearts. She is predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Howard and Sylvia Despaw; her paternal grandparents, Paul and Kay Tiernan; her aunt Shari Hartigan, and her aunt Nancy Walker.

Jessica will be remembered as a strong fighter, an animal lover, a dedicated gamer, a loving daughter, sister, and aunt, and a friend whose compassion touched many lives. While her passing leaves an immeasurable void, her family finds comfort in the memories she created and the love she shared so freely. Her courage, kindness, and unwavering love for those around her will never be forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge (website is https://raiseyourway.donordrive.com/pages/1214), Hospice of Saint Lawrence Valley, or to the Potsdam Humane Society, in honor of Jessica's love for animals and the causes close to her heart and memories and condolences may be shared online at www.buckfuneralhome.com .  The Buck Funeral Home in Norfolk is serving the family of Jessica Ann Tiernan.
