Imperial presidency, says Potsdam resident

To the Editor:

Founding Father John Adams observed at the beginning of our Great Experiment: “There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide.” I never thought in 70 years of living in America that Adams’ ominous pronouncement would occur in my lifetime. But here we are.

Apparently a majority of Americans currently believe the preposterous: Only an imperial presidency can save democracy. Without a king, the Constitution we were taught to revere and so many people have died to protect is a useless piece of paper. Democracy as we’ve known it has wasted and exhausted itself. America will only be great again when that democracy is dead.

Long live the King. Throughout human history, Corruption has always rewarded betrayal with power, money, and position. Women who attack other women’s rights and freedom are rewarded mightily. Whole careers are built upon this betrayal. Likewise, minorities who undermine justice and equal opportunity for minorities receive the same compensation: Power. Money. Do whatever Corruption wants and all this world’s oysters are piled on your plate. Land of the Free?

Home of the Brave? American ideals are in the toilet just waiting to be flushed away. People who don’t care anymore about truth, honor and principle, just winning at any cost, are standing by clapping and cheering while Corruption gleefully flicks the handle. God Bless America because the truly free and brave citizens of this “Shining Light on the Hill” are all “suckers and losers” rotting in the ground.
