Flash flood warning issued for St. Lawrence County with 2-4 inches of rain possible

A flash flood watch is in effect for St. Lawrence County from 11 a.m. today through 8 a.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).  

Rounds of showers and thunderstorms capable of high rainfall rates are expected with scattered to numerous flash flooding possible, the service says. The North Country could see 2-4 inches of rain by tomorrow morning.

Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations, NWS says. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas as well.

Low-water crossings may be flooded and storm drains and ditches may become clogged with debris, the service says.

Highs today will be near 77 degrees with heavy rainfall and thunderstorms possibly after noon, forecasters predict. Overnight the low will be around 67.

The extended forecast through next week in SLC is as follows:

A 50 percent chance of showers. The rain could be heavy at times. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 78. Southwest wind 6 to 8 mph. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

A 30 percent chance of showers before 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 65. Southwest wind 5 to 8 mph. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Friday

Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 79. Southwest wind around 8 mph.

Friday Night

Mostly clear, with a low around 63. South wind around 6 mph.

Saturday

Sunny, with a high near 84. West wind around 7 mph.
