Daniel (Dan) Joseph Carroll, Ogdensburg

OGDENSBURG -- Daniel (Dan) Joseph Carroll was born the youngest of five children in Ogdensburg, NY to James and Alice Carroll on July 20th 1961.

As a kid he spent his days playing baseball, touch football, basketball, hockey and riding bikes or playing cowboys and indians with his friends. He was an avid baseball card collector and joke teller. 

Dan graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1979. He attended SUNY Plattsburgh and graduated in 1983 with a degree in Business Administration. He went on to work for the Bureau of Prisons and later for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for over 30 years before retiring in 2017.

Dan was a hard worker who was well liked by all his fellow employees. He led with integrity and humor and never missed an opportunity to serenade a coworker at a birthday celebration or retirement party. 
Dan met the love of his life, Amy-Jo, in college and they were married on January 14th 1984. In their married life Dan and Amy lived in Saranac Lake, NY; Beckley, WV; and Martinsburg, WV.

They were active in their three children’s sports activities and in their church where Dan served in children’s and youth ministry as a leader in the Truth Seekers Club and Awana's.

He said his greatest accomplishments in life were his 40-year marriage to Amy, stating that he couldn’t believe she stayed around that long, and his three children: Justin Carroll, Nathaniel Carroll, and Danielle Turner.

Dan was a huge fan of the Green Bay Packers and the NY Yankees. He loved a good joke and agitating his family and friends.  He was close to Amy's family, especially his in-laws, Bart and Donna Biondolillo.  He was proud that it only took him three years to learn to spell their last name.     

Dan accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior in 1995. He said his salvation was the best gift he ever received. 

He was predeceased by his parents, James and Alice Carroll, and his brothers Jim Carroll and Patrick Carroll.

He is survived by his brother, Jack Carroll, and his sister, Elizabeth Carroll. He is also survived by his loving wife, Amy, and his three children and six grandchildren – Jack, Alice, Eleanor, Brooke, Cooper, and JoJo– as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins with whom he enjoyed recalling their childhood memories together.

Dan was a good man, hardworking, generous, loyal and faithful. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. He is fondly remembered and missed by his family and friends.   

Being generous in life and death, Dan decided to donate his brain to the University of Maryland for the further study and education of CADASIL.

A celebration of life service for Dan will be held at Independence Bible Church Saturday, September 14th in Martinsburg, WV at 11:00. Lunch to follow service.
