Church & Community Program of Canton celebrated its 50th birthday with fun, food, games, and music in front of their Second Chance Thrift Store and office at 30 Court St., Saturday, Sept. 14.
A food truck, plenty of cupcakes and other treats, games for kids, bounce house, train, craft table and face painting were among the offerings at the party.
In 1974, the pastors of a group of Canton churches formed what became the Church & Community Program.
Now, 50 years later, the program is still here, with the same mission and the same determination to fulfill it.
A food pantry, thrift shop, back to school program for school supplies, and holiday Giving Tree program are all part of the program’s mission of neighbors helping neighbors.
The program provides food, clothing and other essentials to those in need in the towns of Canton, Hermon, Clare, Lisbon, and Russell and the villages of Rensselaer Falls, Richville and Heuvelton.
Those wishing to donate to the program can mail donations to Church & Community Program, 30 Court St., P.O. Box 55, Canton, NY 13617, or drop it off in person.
