HOPKINTON – A June graduate of St. Lawrence Central School in Brasher Falls was recently awarded two scholarships for his volunteerism in the community.

Flynn B. Snell, of Winthrop, is the recipient of two scholarships given by the Hopkinton Historical Group and the Hopkinton-Fort Jackson Volunteer Fire Department.

The scholarships were given in memory of Linda Daby, a constant volunteer in numerous ways, making our community a better place to live. The second scholarship was in memory of her husband, Richard Daby, who was dedicated and passionate about local history.

Recipients of these two awards of $200 each are expected to be involved in volunteerism and a sense of community and exemplify dedication and achievement in their historical studies.

Flynn has been a long time volunteer in activities of the Hopkinton Historical Group – helping at the children's Christmas parties, assisting at the Hopkinton Maple Pancake breakfasts, playing his band saxophone at town events, helping install new shelving at the town museum, along with numerous other acts of volunteerism over many the years.

Flynn enlisted with the United States Air Force National Guard in January 2026 and began basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas in mid-September with the goal of becoming a heavy equipment operator. Following basic training and graduation, he will then be stationed in Missouri for more technical school training in April 2027.

Flynn was very appreciative of receiving these prestigious Hopkinton community awards and is purchasing tools and equipment with them.

For more information on these two scholarships, please contact your high school guidance office in Brasher Falls, Parishville, and St. Regis Falls.
