CANTON – VFW Post 1231 Auxiliary is sponsoring essay contests available for school students. The 2026-2027 theme is “What a Veteran Taught Me About America.”
The Patriot’s Pen contest is a written essay contest for students in the 6th, 7th & 8th grade. The Voice of Democracy contest is a Patriotic Audio Essay competition for students in grades 9–12. Students who are interested in entering the competitions should contact Diana Goolden at 315-386-4178 to receive an entry form.
Completed essay and entry form application are to be received at the Post on Gouverneur Street by Oct. 31. Judging will be done with monetary awards for 1st place $250, 2nd place $100 and 3rd place $50 for both contests.
