AKWESASNE — The Mohawk community's annual Community Food Box Distribution is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 7, from 10 a.m. until all boxes are distributed at the Ionkwakiohkwaró Tribal Administration Building.
The event is open to all community members. A maximum of two households per vehicle is permitted. Attendees must present identification before receiving a food box. Acceptable identification includes a Tribal ID, Mohawks of Akwesasne ID card (Canadian status card) or Mohawk Nation ID card (red card).
Organizers ask attendees to clean out their freezers beforehand and ensure they have enough room for the food items.
Restroom facilities and check-in points will be located along McGee Road. Drivers who need assistance while waiting should turn on their hazard lights to alert a volunteer. In a medical emergency, call 911.
CKON FM Radio will provide regular updates throughout the day.
Traffic information
The vehicle line will begin at the Tribal Administration Building on Margaret Terrance Memorial Way and proceed along Route 37 to McGee Road. Signs and volunteers will guide drivers through the process.
Organizers warn that long wait times are possible because of the expected number of vehicles. Attendees are encouraged to bring water and snacks and ensure their vehicles have enough fuel.
