CANTON — Terron Carey and Zac Ellison joined the St. Lawrence University football staff for the 2024 season as graduate assistant coaches.

"I am excited to add two new graduate assistant coaches to our team for this season," said head coach Dan Puckhaber. "Zac and Terron are two young football coaches that bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to Canton."

Carey, a 2022 graduate of Idaho State University, holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in public relations. He was a three-year starting center/guard and a team captain for the Bengals with over 2,000 snaps. He earned both Second Team and Third-Team All-Conference honors. In 2023, Carey played his final year of eligibility at Northern Arizona University.

While playing at Idaho he also worked as an assistant offensive line coach during summer prospect camps where he primarily worked with centers and guards during individual drills, collaborated with head/position coaches and sports med staff to define program requirements and hosted campus tours for recruits, effectively communicating program culture and rules to instill a strong sense of team values and expectations.

"Terron joins us after being a decorated student-athlete at Idaho State University and Northern Arizona," Puckhaber added. "Coach Carey, a former team captain is officially starting his coaching career with the Saints after gaining experience as a Summer Prospect Camp Coach at Idaho State"

Ellison graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in liberal studies from Greensboro College in 2021 and has spent the past three seasons coaching at his Alma Mater in a variety of roles. During his playing career he was the team leader in points scored in 2019 and earned First-Team All-USA South Conference honors as a punter. At Greensboro he has served as the specialist coach, special teams coordinator, assistant defensive backs coach and most recently, the running backs coach.

He has coached kickers, punters and long snappers since 2021, including running positional meetings and developing daily practice plans, as well as, assisted with running special teams' meetings and practice plans for the entire special team's unit.

"Zac brings three years of coaching experience at his Alma Mater, Greensboro College, where he played for our new defensive coordinator Zach Mallard. Coach Ellison has a passion for the special team's part of the game, as he was a former kicker in college."

Coach Ellison will be working with the defensive secondary and Coach Carey will be the running backs and assistant offensive line coach.

St. Lawrence will open the 2024 season on Saturday, September 7 at 12 p.m. vs. Endicott.
