St. Lawrence County sugar houses participating in Maple Weekend events

Several local sugar houses will celebrate the annual New York State Maple Weekend March 16, 17, 23 and 24 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. with open houses, pancake breakfasts and tours.

Those participating may be open on only specific days or at different times than the official weekend times. See below for specifics for each location.

The following producers will participate:

  • Southville Maples, (315) 244-1355, 56 West Stockholm Southville Rd, Potsdam — open March 16, 17, 23 & 24. Stop and tour their newly renovated facility which adds 2,000 square feet to the building. While visiting enjoy some samples of products along with learning the process of making each of them. Southville produces maple syrup, maple sugar (granulated), maple spread ("cream"), maple sugar shapes and maple cotton.
  • Sweeter Creations Sugar House LLC, 3345 State Highway 345, Waddington, (315) 869-2854 — open March 16, 17, 23 & 24. Sweeter Creations is hosting pancake breakfast from 8-4 all days. They will be making syrup weather permitting. Value added product demonstrations. The sugar house produces maple syrup (pure), maple syrup (flavored), maple sugar (granulated), maple spread ("cream"), maple sugar shapes, maple coffee, maple tea, maple cotton, and maple mustard.
  • Trout Lake Maple, 672 Chub Lake Road, Gouverneur, (315) 562-8288 — open March 16, 17, 23 & 24. Sugarhouse tours: sap filtration, storage and reverse osmosis syrup testing and grading syrup-making equipment and bottling of syrup. Saturday, March 16: a.m. candy-making demonstration, maple cotton floss; p.m. maple popcorn demonstration samples of different popcorn flavors. Sunday, March 17: a.m. maple cream making demonstration with samples of the product; p.m. donuts making maple and glazing samples of the product. Saturday, March 23: a.m. maple popcorn demonstration samples of different popcorn flavors; p.m. donuts, making maple and glazing samples of the product. Sunday, March 24: a.m. candy-making demonstration or maple sugar making; p.m. wax on snow, maple ice cream making. Trout Lake Maple produces maple syrup (pure), maple syrup (flavored), maple sugar (granulated), maple spread ("cream"), maple sugar shapes, maple candy and/or lollipops, maple coffee, maple tea, maple cotton, maple popcorn, maple coated nuts, maple fudge.
  • Woody’s Maple, 418 Underwood Rd., Hermon, (315) 528-3020, https://www.woodysmaplesyrup.com — open March 16, 17, 23 & 24. Tour Woody’s Maple sugarhouse and see how they transform sap into syrup. Sample their maple syrups and value added products. Woody’s Maple produces maple syrup (pure), maple syrup (flavored), maple sugar (granulated), maple spread ("cream"), maple sugar shapes.
  • Brick Chapel Maple, 5455 CR 27, Canton, (315) 323-6859 — open March 16, 17, 23 & 24, 9 a.m.-noon. Pancake breakfast will be served all 4 days from 9-noon. Brick Chapel produces maple syrup (pure), maple sugar (granulated), maple spread (“cream”), maple popcorn.
  • CCE of St. Lawrence County, 820 CR 25, Canton, (315) 379-9192, https://stlawrence.cce.cornell.edu — open March 16 only. Extension helpers this day will be ag students from across St. Lawrence County. The Extension participates in the Ag Academy program and teaching the next generation how to produce maple syrup. There will be tours of the sugarbush and sugarhouse. There will be demonstrations of how to make maple cream - come and try doing it yourself. The Extension produces maple syrup (pure).
  • Finen Maple Products LLC, 529 Austin Ridge Road, Norwood, (315) 353-2015 — open March 16, 17, 23 & 24. Tour the sugar house, learn about maple sugar production and same a taste of warm maple syrup. All-you-can-eat breakfast buffet from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m.; free for ages 3 and younger, $13 ages 4-11 and $16 ages 12 and older. Reservation recommended but not required.; call 315-353-2015. Vistors can stroll in the sugar woods and tour Finen’s glamping sites. Tubing will be run through the woods where you can see the sap flow from trees to the table. Finen produces maple syrup (pure), maple syrup (flavored), maple sugar (granulated), maple spread ("cream"), maple sugar shapes, maple candy and/or lollipops, maple cotton, and maple coated nuts.
  • Orebed Sugar Shack, 503 Orebed Rd., DeKalb Junction, (315) 528-2450 or (315) 528-2451, orebedsugarshack@tds.net, more information on Facebook — open March 16, 17, 23 & 24. E-mail: orebedsugarshack@tds.net. Free activities include guided tours in a heated sugarhouse. Learn how sap from a maple tree comes to the sugar shack and out of the evaporator as maple syrup. Learn to tap a tree. Granulated maple sugar demonstrations throughout the day. See the equipment in operation (weather permitting). See an old-fashioned backyard flat pan set up and running. Samples of maple cotton candy, maple syrup, maple cream & maple candy. Face painting, horse-drawn wagon rides 11 a.m.-3 p.m. See and pet the alpacas. Chainsaw carving (Saturday’s only). Raffle for adults. Coloring contest for kids (rules on a post on our Facebook Page). Come learn about the maple tradition with four generations of maple producers. Orebed Sugar Shack produces maple syrup (pure), maple sugar (granulated), maple spread ("cream"), maple sugar shapes, maple candy and/or lollipops, maple coffee, maple cotton, maple dog biscuits, gift baskets.
  • Shamrock Maple, (571) 218-0181, 907 Lake Ozonia Rd., Saint Regis Falls, https://ShamrockMaple.com — open March 16, 17, 23 & 24. Tour Shamrock Maple’s "off-grid" and "state-of-art" maple farm in the foothills of the Adirondacks. Good parking with easy handicap access to the sugarshack, with a handicap bathroom. Shamrock is open from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. and serving from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday (both Maple Weekends). 100% pure organic maple product will be available for sale. Shamrock Maple produces maple syrup (pure), maple sugar (granulated), maple spread ("cream"), maple sugar shapes, maple candy and/or lollipops.
