CANTON – St. Lawrence County Government and the Youth Bureau are inviting families, community organizations, local programs, businesses, and students to join in a Countywide Trunk or Treat on Friday, Oct. 30, from 5–7 p.m. at the Human Services Building, 80 State Highway 310.
Held in celebration of County Government Month, the family-friendly event will combine Halloween fun with an opportunity for residents to meet some of the people, departments, organizations, and programs that serve communities throughout St. Lawrence County.
Families and children are warmly invited to dress in costume and enjoy a spooktacular evening of decorated vehicles, treats, community activities, and Halloween fun. County departments will be joining the festivities, with the St. Lawrence County Highway Department planning to bring one of its large snowplows for children to see up close.
Families may even receive a surprise visit from the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office and K-9 Knowlton.
The Youth Bureau is also inviting local organizations, programs, school groups, and businesses to be part of the celebration by decorating a vehicle and handing out treats. Participants who prefer an indoor option may host a decorated table inside the Human Services Building.
Local teens are especially encouraged to bring their creativity to the event.
Teen artists and art classes are invited to create or paint Halloween decorations that can be displayed throughout the event, while theater students are encouraged to volunteer in costume to help create a fun Halloween atmosphere for younger children.
The St. Lawrence County Youth Bureau will provide written documentation of community service hours to teens who volunteer their time and talents.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to bring County Government and our community together in a fun and welcoming way,” said Alexa Backus Chase, Director of the St. Lawrence County Youth Bureau. “We want families to come out and enjoy Halloween, while also giving young people, County employees and community partners an opportunity to contribute their creativity and help make the evening special.”
Weather permitting, activities will be held primarily outside in the Human Services Building parking lot.
Indoor space will also be available, allowing the celebration to continue should October weather bring rain, or even an early North Country snowfall.
Organizations, programs, businesses, school groups, or individuals interested in hosting a decorated trunk or table, creating decorations, or volunteering should contact Alexa Backus Chase at AChase@stlawco.gov or the St. Lawrence County Youth Bureau at 315-379-9464.
Families do not need to volunteer to participate, instead, save the date, put on costumes, and come join the fun.
