The SLC People Project has received a $1,000 contribution from Price Chopper’s Golub Foundation to help the non-profit continue its program, “Gizmo’s Pawesome Guide to Mental Health.”

Over the past year, more than 1,000 students in grades 3 and 4 have had the Gizmo training and completed their own mental health plans. The People Project, in partnership with the County Youth Bureau and their Teen Ambassadors, have brought the program to twelve different school districts.

“The topic of Mental Health is often a difficult topic for adults to discuss and for young children to understand.  We hope that by teaching young children what to do when they are sad, mad, or angry, they will develop lifelong coping skills to assist them in dealing with emotional challenges throughout their lifetime,” said Mary Wills, executive director of the SLC People Project. “We are hoping to expand this program and are currently looking for any retired teachers who might be interested in volunteering a few hours to help with the lessons.”
