To the Editor:
The St. Lawrence County Fire Chiefs Association (SLCFCA); Firefighters Association of the State of New York (FASNY); and Northern New York Volunteer Firemen’s Association (NNYVFA) hosted their 4th Annual Youth in the Fire Service Day on Saturday, August 17th. This event is put on to give Junior Firefighters, RAMs, and Explorers, hands-on experience. The event is meant to continue their interest in being firefighters, and provide important hands-on training. This year, evolutions included Hose Advancement (taught by Ray Guzman and Dan Jolly), Mayday Simulation (taught by Nick Rolley), Rope Rescue (taught by Steve Sullivan), and Firefighter Down CPR (taught by James Blackburn).
We welcomed 20 Junior Firefighters from the following fire departments: Adams, Clifton Fine, Gouverneur, Long Lake, Morristown, Norfolk, North Lawrence, Star Lake, Tupper Lake, and West Carthage.
We were honored to have Assemblyman Scott Gray and New York State Senator Daniel Stec join us for part of the day.
We would like to thank the many volunteers, our sponsors, and the youths’ sponsors that helped out throughout the day.
