HOPKINTON — A barn on U.S. Highway 11 burned early this morning, according to a statement on the Hopkinson Ft. Jackson Fire Department’s page.
Hopkinton-Fort Jackson Fire and seven mutual aid departments battled a large barn fire on U.S. Highway 11B early today, fire officials said.
Firefighters said the structure fire was threatening machinery at a farm. Firefighters began fire attack and exposure protection for several hours fighting a stubborn blaze fueled by tremendous amounts of hay.
They were reportedly assisted on scene by St. Lawrence County Car 2, Parishville Fire, Nicholville Fire, Lawrenceville Fire, Brasher Winthrop Fire, West Stockholm Fire, Parishville Rescue, Dickinson Fire.
Firefighters battled the blaze for nearly 10 hours and used over 250,000 gallons of water to put it out.
“We cannot thank our mutual aid partners enough for helping us today, as well as the many people that brought food and drinks for our firemen, fire officials said. “A smoky condition will be present at Triple H Farms whilst some of the remaining hay smolders. Please do not be alarmed by this, the fire department and homeowner are closely monitoring the situation.
