Against Ives Park boathouse placement

To the Editor:

I am writing today to request that you reconsider present plans to build a boathouse (or two) in Ives Park. My argument is plain: I believe we have already compromised too much green space in what once was a lush and peaceful spot for our village residents and many students.

My argument is primarily based on my own concept of what is attractive, for sure, but is being echoed by the many people who have approached me since I reached out to the village to ask (too late! too late!) that it reconsiders placing the public bathroom in the center of the park.

I believe alternatives are available: it has come to my attention that it might be possible to bring in a trailer with kayaks for rent on a daily basis, therefore leaving no permanent concrete footprint while still providing recreation and revenue.

And if aesthetics are still not a strong enough incentive, I believe one could also argue for fiscal responsibility since it is the taxpayers who will be shouldering the responsibility of this. Why should the entire village pay for what will benefit a few folks who simply want the convenience of not having to shlep their boats to the park?

Thanks for your time and consideration in this matter.

It’s another beautiful day. I hope you can get out and enjoy it.
