MASSENA -- Total transits and cargo are up year-to-date on the St. Lawrence Seaway.
According to a report issued by the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation on Oct. 1, total cargo from 2025 to the same period in 2026 increased by 3.49%.
Grain shipments were down 3%, while iron ore was down 3.43% and coal was down 6.47%.
Dry bulk, however, saw a sharp increase of 20.26%, compared to a 4.08% decrease in liquid bulk and 10.84% decrease in general cargo.
Total cargo is up 842 tons over the same period of time, with dry bulk being the loan increase at 1,530 more tons than 2025.
As for vessel transits, those figures have increased by 138, with 2,719 transits through 2026, compared to 2,581 during the same time frame in 2025.
That represents a 5.35% increase, officials said.
