Roger K. Weldon, 78, Gouverneur

GOUVERNEUR – Roger K. Weldon, age 78 of 250 Weldon Road, died on September 13, 2024 at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.

Mr. Weldon graduated from Gouverneur Central School in 1965 where he wrestled and played football.

He worked on the family farm while growing up.

He was employed by Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation in 1966 and was a Hotstick Lineman and a Line Foreman for 34 years, retiring March 1, 2001.

He was a member of the Gouverneur Elks Lodge and Moldy Pond Hunting Club.

Roger enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and watching deer, birds, and squirrels in his back yard.

He was an avid outdoorsman.

Roger was a life-long resident of Weldon Road in Gouverneur.

Born February 23, 1946 in the Town of Gouverneur, he was the son of the late Carl and Ruth (VanTassel) Weldon.

He married Lorraine Kane in 1965. This marriage ended in divorce.

He married Sharon (Miller) Fenton on February 16, 1979.

Surviving are his wife, Sharon Weldon of Gouverneur, a son and his wife, Karl W. and Kimberly of Gouverneur, a daughter and her husband, Judith L. and James Bradley of Henrico, VA, a step-son, Shawn R. Fenton of Gouverneur, sister, Joyce Walton of Gouverneur, sister-in-law, Alice Weldon of Gouverneur, three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Roger was predeceased by his parents, Carl and Ruth Weldon, three brothers, Douglas, Ralph and James Weldon, a sister, Wilma Girard, and a step-son, Shad Fenton.

Calling hours will be held at French Funeral Home in Gouverneur on Thursday, September 19, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. followed by his funeral service at 1:00 p.m.

Burial will follow in Hailesboro Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Gouverneur Rescue Squad or the Gouverneur Fire Department.
