Robert J. Frederick, 92, Massena

MASSENA -- Robert J. Frederick, 92 years old, of 12 Lawrence Street, peacefully passed away on Friday, October 11, 2024, at the Massena Hospital with his family by his side.

Robert was born on January 6, 1932, in Potsdam, son of the late Hobart and Nancy (Bruce) Frederick. 

He attended Hannawa Falls Elementary School and graduated from Potsdam Central School in 1951. 

He entered the US Air Force in 1952 and proudly served until his honorable discharge in 1956. 

He married Loraine F. Moraski on February 20, 1954, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Dallas, Texas.

Robert worked at Alcoa before starting at General Motors, where he retired as a supervisor after 29 years. 

He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and member of the AMVETS and the American Legion Post 79. 

He enjoyed being active and was a member of the Massena Country Club golfing into his 90s. 

He refereed hockey and basketball for over 20 years and enjoyed travelling and driving with his family and friends on various trips throughout the years.  Robert loved spending time with his family and cherished his time with his grandchildren.

Robert is survived by his wife of 70 years, Loraine; two sons Michael (Patty) Frederick of Montgomery, Texas; and Randy (Shaylyn) Frederick of Massena; four grandchildren, Michael (Elida), Jordan and Taylor (Amanda) Frederick and Cory (Gaston) Goriup; and five great-grandchildren Lexi and Devin Goriup and Elin, Evie and Eiler Frederick.

Besides his parents, Hobart and Nancy, Robert was also predeceased by his sons, Ricky J. Frederick on January 5, 2016, and Bradford John “BJ” Frederick in infancy on September 26, 1968; and his siblings, Sally Frederick, Joyce “Ducky” Gillett, Lorraine Belile and Basil Frederick.

A Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at 2:30 PM with Rev. Mark R. Reilly officiating. 

Burial will be held at the convenience of the family at Calvary Cemetery, Massena.
