Proposition 1 is attack on women's, parental rights

To the Editor:

Prop 1, a proposed amendment to the New York constitution, is an attack on women’s and parental rights. When government attempts to create new rights, it pays to look at the rights you already have.

Prop One contradicts Title IX as it will permit males to participate in women’s sports (including access to separate locker rooms, bathrooms, sororities). Girls who are competing for athletic scholarships will be disadvantaged as a result. How does this guarantee equal rights for women? How is this safe?

Prop 1 will grant minor children the right to medical transgender interventions and receiving medication without parental consent or notification. Parents will not be permitted medical information/diagnoses relative to their 12-17-year-old child’s medical record without the prior written consent of the child. Yet, parents will remain financially and legally responsible for the minor child. (ie, parents will be responsible for managing the emotional consequences and physical side effects impacting their minor children).

Congresswoman Elise Stefanik has been sounding the alarm on this proposition. She has steadfastly spoken out against Prop 1. This is why we need leaders like Elise Stefanik fighting against these radical left policies.

State legislation was passed in 2021 supporting rights for minor children and granting men access to women’s bathrooms. When voting in this election, turn over your ballot and Vote “NO” to the question of including these “rights” in the New York constitution.
