CANTON – Members of the Canton Town Board continue to work on a proposed 2025 budget totaling $4,055,532.88.
The next budget session will be held Oct,. 24 at 4 p.m. at the Canton Municipal Building.
Town Supervisor Mary Ann Ashley noted that as of Thursday, Oct. 10, the proposed tax rate is $2.959363 per $1,000 assessed value, a slight increase over the 2023 tax rate of $2.95 per $1,000 assessed value. The proposed tax levy is $1,205.941.
The tax rate will be $2.96 in 2025 unless town officials opt to override the tax cap.
The budget has increases in costs of payroll including retirement and health insurance costs.
Ashley said the budget figures are most likely going to change due to continued process and discussions. A public hearing on the proposed spending plan will be held Nov. 4 at 6 p.m. at the Canton Municipal Building. The town board has until Nov. 18 to adopt the budget.
At the Oct. 9 monthly meeting, board members did vote to override the tax cap if necessary.
