POTSDAM — The Potsdam Synagogue is hosting a lecture by Professor Laini Kavaloski entitled “Jewish Women Drawing War” on Sunday, May 2 at 4 p.m. on Zoom. The talk is free and open to the public.

In this lecture, Kavaloski examines the ways that contemporary Jewish identity has been shaped by war, memory, and militarization through the lens of the graphic memoir.

The works discussed will include Miriam Libicki’s Jobnik! (2008), Sarah Glidden’s How to Understand Israel in 60 Days or Less (2010), Amy Kurzweil’s Flying Couch (2016), and Julia Alexseyeva’s Soviet Daughter: A Graphic Revolution (2017), among others.

Professor Kavaloski is an associate professor in Liberal Arts at SUNY Canton. Kavaloski’s extensive publications include articles on game studies, graphic novels, digital pedagogy, and Jewish literature.
