NORFOLK -- A Potsdam man who was removing a deer from a state highway avoided serious injury after he was struck by an oncoming vehicle.
On Sunday, Oct. 18, at approximately 6:57 p.m., New York State Police responded to a car-deer accident on State Route 56 in the town of Norfolk. An investigation determined that a red 2010 Toyota, operated by Jason Briggs, 44, of Potsdam, was traveling north on State Route 56 when a deer entered the roadway. Briggs was unable to avoid striking the deer.
Bradley F. Jerome, 50, of Potsdam, was at the scene attempting to remove the deer carcass from the roadway. A white 2011 Chevrolet, operated by Mark J. Gonyou, 38, of Norfolk, was traveling south on State Route 56 when he approached the accident scene and struck Jerome after failing to observe him in the roadway.
Jerome was transported to Canton-Potsdam Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
