Norwood Volunteer Fire Department had a successful July 3 and July 4 of 2023. It was a beautiful day, with lots of sunshine, and a few clouds took over the afternoon. But didn’t stop Majestic Fireworks, from setting up a beautiful show for the Norwood Community and surrounding villages and towns that came to see the sky light up with such a beautiful array of colors, and some loud booms. A local Glowstick Vendor was nearby, selling out of almost everything he had available for purchase for the children to enjoy, before and during the fireworks.

We were very fortunate to have manpower from nearby departments helping out with some of our events. Colton Fire Department, Louisville Fire Department and Morley Fire Department all lent a hand, some of the volunteer firefighters for 2 days in a row. Bounce houses were in the Village Green, rented from JET Jump N Slide, Mountain Express Locomotive Train Rides set up, also in the park for train rides for the children to enjoy.

The St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce, and B99.3 were kind enough to spread our events for both days, and Jody Tosti interviewed Jess Grant, the organizer of the fireworks this year, and aired our interview on the radio station so people around our quaint area were able to help with donations towards our fireworks display.

Donation jars were placed at several local businesses in Norwood, including: Hometown Café, Merriman’s Lumber, Dollar General, 7/11 convenience/gas station, Hometown Market and Firehouse Pizzeria. The amount the community donated in a short time we placed them out was absolutely phenomenal.

Local businesses who donated include:

William Stone Construction, Norwood American Legion Post 68, Kevin LaFleur Collision Repair, J.C. Merriman’s, Knowlton & Sons, Haggett Excavating, St. Lawrence Federal Credit Union, Seacomm Federal Credit Union, North Country Savings Bank, Potter’s Industries, North Country Collision, TJ Toyota Dealership, Café 56, Al Smith’s Superette, Drew’s Insurance Agency, Trinity Golf Course, Northern Mechanicals Inc, The Lobster House, Twin Cedar Construction Corporation (Frank Davey), Casella Waste Systems, Nikki Coates and Associates, Asian Buffet and Mongolian Grill, Perretta’s Collision, Buck Funeral Home, Watson Electric, Back in Motion Family Chiropractor, Jim Mousaw, Leslie Clark, Kathleen and Steve Hartman, John and Jai Fiacco, The Village of Norwood, The St. Lawrence County Democratic Committee, Patriot Paving, Sharon Hicks, and Marina N Ben, LLC.

Next year we are looking at some big changes for 2024. The NFD would greatly appreciate your support in creating and hosting new events at a new location, and ending the 2024 Fourth of July off with one of the biggest Firework Displays the North Country will see over the Norwood Lake. We hope to continue to expand our firework display, and we hope we can continue to count on our community's help in doing so.
