OGDENSBURG -- Ogdensburg Free Academy has been cleared following a lockdown and students were released to parents Thursday afternoon after school officials were told a student claimed to have a gun.

Ogdensburg City School District Superintendent Kevin Kendall said that there was no active shooter at the school and no one was injured.

“Earlier this afternoon, Ogdensburg Free Academy went into a lockdown after a student was reported to have had a gun on campus. Law enforcement agencies responded and swept the building for any potential threats. They have determined that the building is secure. No injuries were reported,” Kendall said.

“All extracurricular activities, and athletic events have been canceled for today. Students who are still on campus must be picked up in the Dome parking lot. We are thankful for the law enforcement partners who responded quickly to ensure the safety of our school community, and to our students, staff and administration for the flawless implementation of our district emergency plan.”

Law enforcement reported a person in custody following the incident but further details were not available.
