OGDENSBURG — Two fires on Thursday kept city firefighters busy, according to Ogdensburg Professional Firefighters Local 1799 Facebook page.

Firefighters responded at 12:20 p.m. along with Ogdensburg Rescue, and County Car 9 to the 700 block of New York Ave for a reported structure fire with possible entrapment.

Crews were reportedly on scene within minutes.

A call was made for all off duty personnel and Heuvelton Volunteer Department with an engine and man power to stand by at the Ogdensburg Fire Department.

“Crews went to work immediately stretching a 1 3/4 inch hand line to the rear of the structure and quickly knocked down the fire, preserving the large majority of the home from any smoke/water or fire damage,” fire officials said. “As the initial crew worked quickly to knock down the fire, Captain McCormick established that all occupants had exited the structure and no one was entrapped inside the structure.”

Firefighters remained on scene for over an hour conducting overhaul of the structure. All crews returned to service at 1:37 p.m.

“As always a huge thank you to our brothers and sisters in the Heuvelton Volunteer Fire Department for helping to cover the city as we responded to the fire, to the Ogdensburg Volunteer Rescue Squad for the timely response and generous help on all scenes, and our brothers and sisters in blue the Ogdensburg Police Department for helping to control traffic and ensure our safety at the scene,” officials said.

Earlier that morning Ogdensburg Professional Firefighters responded to a mutual aid request from the Lisbon Volunteer Fire Department.

At 2:15 a.m. firefighters responded, arriving on scene just a few minutes to assist battling the blaze.

Crews worked on scene for over an hour before being recalled to the station to protect the city, fire officials said.
