CANTON — A St. Lawrence County legislative committee approved a motion to make North Country This Week the county’s official newspaper for 2021.
The board’s Finance Committee took the vote during their Monday, Dec. 21 meeting. If passed by the full board in January, NCTW would run legal notices for the county.
North Country This Week was originally slated to be the official newspaper for 2024, with the Courier Observer the official paper for 2021 and the Watertown Daily Times for 2022. The motion the committee passed names the Tribune Press the official 2023 newspaper.
Legislator Jim Reagen, R-Ogdensburg, said he doesn’t think Johnson Newspapers, which owns the Courier and Watertown Times, should get the first two consecutive shots. Reagen is a former editor of the Ogdensburg Journal, a Johnson-owned paper that folded along with the St. Lawrence Plaindealer in 2019.
