POTSDAM — Electrical boxes in the village could soon become public art canvases if funding comes through.
The village board approved a resolution at its meeting Sept. 23 to sponsor an application for Community Arts Grant funding through the New York State Council on the Arts Statewide Community Regrants Program.
The grant would pay artist Liza L.L. Paige to design and paint four mural public artworks on electrical boxes located in the village.
Paige is the arts educator at the North Country Children’s Museum and teaches as an adjunct instructor of the Arts at St. Lawrence University, SUNY Potsdam and Clarkson University.
According to her SLU bio, Paige’s personal artwork explores narrative portraiture through charcoal and soft pastel. She has most recently led intergenerational art projects including interactive installations and community created murals.
No local match will be required by the village, if the grant is secured for the murals.
