MALONE -- The New York State United Teachers’ (NYSUT) Retiree Council 9 (RC9) is hosting a Regional Conference with speakers and topics geared toward retirees and issues important to them.

The conference will be held Wednesday, Oct. 16, 9 to 3, at the Malone Golf Club & Grill. Lunch is included in the $15 registration fee.

Marc Quinlan, a NYSUT Health Benefits specialist, will discuss recent legislation and current trends impacting healthcare for retirees.

Barry Kaufman, President of the NYS Alliance for Retired Americans, will highlight how the issues of Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and prescription drug prices should be a part of one’s election decisions.

Steve Kramer of the Feldman, Monaco and Kramer Law Firm will present information trusts as an estate planning tool, and Adirondack Architectural Heritage (AARCH) will share the many opportunities they provide for touring historic sites throughout the Adirondacks and North Country.

RC9 is part of the NYSUT Retiree Services Program established to act as a service provider and help retirees organize.

RC9 is divided into several subgroups, including the Franklin-St. Lawrence (FSNUR) group that has sponsored several local events including tours at the Remington Museum, Thousand Island Park, and the St. Lawrence Power and Equipment Museum.

A Paint & Sip is planned for Oct. 17 and plans are in the works for a trip to a Yankee’s game next summer.

Other subgroups of RC9 include JLCNR, (Jefferson & Lewis Counties), CVCR (Champlain Valley counties of Clinton & Essex), and SANR (Southern Adirondack, Warren County).

Registration and more information about the Fall Conference can be found at nysut.cc/rc9fall-2024.

The registration deadline has been extended to October 4.
