New York State fall foliage report available

POTSDAM – With Autumn at hand, the leaves have started to turn and local residents are starting to see fall colors across the landscape.

According to the I LOVE NY Fall Foliage Report, St. Lawrence County is just starting to transform to yellow and other shades in the north and a more than halfway change is being reported in the south of the county in the Adirondacks.

About 5-15% change is observed in Ogdensburg with a mix of muted yellow leaves and some bright touches of red and purple.

Observers in Canton are calling in a 5% change in Canton.

However, travelers looking for the best autumn show in the state this weekend should head for the Adirondacks, I LOVE NY said in the most recent report.

Up to 60% change is currently reported in Wanakena with average-to-bright red and orange leaves.

Other areas of the mountains are expecting a 50 percent change over the coming days. The following areas will experience foliage around the midpoint of change the report said: Newcomb, Tupper Lake, Mt. Arab, Saranac Lake, Lake Pleasant, Old Forge, Wilmington, and Wanakena.

Leaf reports are obtained from volunteer field observers and reflect expected color conditions for the coming weekend. Reports are issued every Wednesday afternoon.
