POTSDAM – The New Horizons Bands of Northern NY will sponsor an afternoon of music making on Friday, Jan. 12.

Open to Seniors age 55+ as well as New Horizons Band members, the workshop is entitled “Beats, Buckets and Boomwhackers.”

Dr. Caron Collins, retired Crane School of Music Professor, will lead participants through various types of drumming and focus on the techniques of listening, call response and improvisation.

The workshop will be held on Friday, Jan. 12 (snow date Jan. 19) from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at New Hope Community Church, 33 Grant St.

Admission is free for New Horizons members and $10 for non-members.

To register, email Diane Mathie at NewHorizonsNNY@gmail.com or call Kathy Calcagno at 315-344-7518.

The New Horizons Band of Northern NY has over 50 musicians from all around St. Lawrence County.

The organization provides older adults with opportunities to learn a musical instrument (or become re-acquainted with an instrument of their youth) and play in a band with other fun loving seniors.

New Horizons Concert and Swing Bands meet weekly in Potsdam.
